This homestay is the traditional and heritage house in Guddekeri close to Agumbe. Agumbe is popularly called as the 'Chirapunji of the South'. Experience nice hospitality, adventure, and other activities at the Homestay.

1.5 days Program schedule for Trekking Team

Arrive @ Hingaara around 7:00 am. Homestay is located on an Arecanut plantation.

Breakfast - Start of Malnad food experience in Hingaara nature stay.

 

First Half of the day

Visit Onake Abbi Falls - around 3 km Trekk in the dense Rain Forest. To witness the 400 years old tree and mesmerizing Waterfalls from the top, this place is a house for many flora & fauna (2.5 hrs - approx time)

Malnad Style Buffet Lunch

Relax for sometime

 

Post Lunch

We take you for a Plantation tour, give you a brief on different crops grown in Agumbe region (40 - 50 mins)

Experience the private Water Cave walk

Visit Unexplored Kattina Madike stream / Bheemanakatte backwaters & Hanging Bridge / Jogi gundi falls (1.5 hrs)

Campfire (30 mins)

Night trail in & around homestay -

Great chance to capture beautiful frogs of Western Ghats through your camera lens or your eyes. If lucky we get to see snakes, bison, barking deer, sambar (20 - 30 mins)

Day 2

Refreshing Early Morning Trekk

Trekk to Akki Raashi battadha Gudda - around 4 km. You get to see Nature @ it's best from this hill (1 hr)

Breakfast

Visit Kundadri Hills - one of the best places to watch Sunrise, there is a Jain temple on top of the hill which is more than 450 years old. Kundadri is Malnad's heaven (1.5 hrs)

Here’s a 3-day detailed trip itinerary for your stay at Hingaara Homestay in Guddekeri, Agumbe—a serene, heritage getaway in the Western Ghats. The itinerary blends nature, adventure, culture, and relaxation.

🌿 Day 1: Arrival & Malnad Immersion

Morning:

  • Arrive at Hingaara Homestay, a 350-year-old heritage home.

  • Welcome drink & check-in.

  • Settle into your Malnad-style room or opt for camping (based on your preference).

Afternoon:

  • Enjoy a traditional Malnad lunch with local delicacies.

  • Post-lunch, take a guided plantation walk through areca, paddy, and spice farms.

  • Try your hand at Kesaru Gadde (mud field games) if available.

Evening:

  • Visit a nearby village for a cultural experience—interact with locals and explore rural life.

  • Return for a bonfire with local snacks and stories.

  • Traditional dinner served at the homestay.


🌄 Day 2: Rainforest Exploration & Waterfalls

Early Morning:

  • Head out for a sunrise trek to Kundadri Hills (Jain temple + panoramic views).

  • Carry light snacks and water.

Morning:

  • Visit Agumbe Rainforest Research Station (with prior permission).

  • Short drive and trek to Jogi Gundi Falls—a hidden gem with a cave-fed waterfall.

Afternoon:

  • Return to the homestay for lunch and short rest.

  • Explore Barkana Falls View Point (a seasonal waterfall amidst thick rainforest).

  • Optional: Visit a local school supported by the homestay (if it's a weekday).

Evening:

  • Sunset at Agumbe Sunset View Point—a must-do!

  • Return for dinner and storytelling session about local wildlife (like King Cobras!).


🍃 Day 3: Chill, Reflect & Depart

Morning:

  • Wake up early for a birdwatching walk around the property.

  • Optional: Yoga or meditation session on a hilltop.

  • Traditional breakfast.

Late Morning:

  • Leisure walk through the arecanut plantations.

  • Pack and check out.

Optional Stops (on the way back):

  • Onake Abbi Falls (requires trekking).

  • Sringeri Temple or Thirthahalli if heading eastward.

  • 🚗 Access: 2 hrs from Shimoga, 3.5 hrs from Mangalore.

  • 🧳 What to Pack: Trekking shoes, rainwear (Agumbe is very rainy!), flashlight, insect repellent, and light woolens.

  • 📅 Best Time to Visit: July–Feb (lush greenery and waterfalls).
