Places to go
Kavaledurga is a place of historical importance, but it is also famous for the breath-taking view it provides from atop the hill. The fort(now in ruins)was built by Bidanur/Keladi Nayaks, in the 17th century. The fort built on the hill overlooks a vast area, now mostly submerged under the backwaters of the Varahi dam. It is on the way to Kollur, the famous temple town in the Western Ghats.
Bheemana Katte is about five kms. from Thirthahalli. A beautiful beach is formed at the confluence of Tunga and Malathi rivers. You can enjoy the tranquility of Nature here, especially during summer evenings. Or lie on the pure sand and gaze at the stars on winter evenings after dark. |
